The summer months are critical for the Learning and Collaborative Environments (LCE) team to complete upgrades to classroom pool facilities and technology. One feature added this summer was a new assistive listening technology, Mobile Connect, implemented in eight lecture halls.
This new solution offers any student the ability to use an app installed on their mobile device and their own headphones to stream audio in the room directly to their device. The user simply downloads the Sennheiser Mobile Connect app, connects to eduroam, then opens the app and selects their classroom from the list. They connect headphones or other listening devices, such as a hearing aid or cochlear implant, and the amplified audio is automatically broadcast to their device. The app also allows the user to adjust settings that are maintained across all rooms equipped with this technology. Additionally, there is no setup required by the instructor, and any student can benefit, not just those with a formal disability accommodation on file.
Currently, this solution is available in the following rooms, with plans to include this technology in the classroom standard so that over the next two years, the remaining 32 classroom pool lecture halls will be updated.
- Hitchcock Hall 031, 035 and 131
- Independence Hall 100
- Journalism Building 360
- Mendenhall 100
- Page Hall 010, 020
We encourage instructors to make students aware of this feature early in the semester. For a brief overview or a walkthrough on how to use Mobile Connect in your room, please contact Classroom Services at 614-688-4357 (option 4), email classroomhelp@osu.edu, or visit the Learning Spaces Directory.
